Ferry on Great South Bay approaching Fire Island

Getting there

Charters

The public ferries are the cheap, scheduled way over. When the clock is wrong — a wedding, a house share, the last boat gone — these are the operators who will still run.

Fire Island Water Taxi · On-demand boat

Cross-bay water taxi

Your own run across the Great South Bay when the public ferry does not fit — early, late, or to a dock the scheduled boats skip.

$250 up to 10 people, 7am–midnight

  • Midnight to 7am: $275 for the same ten seats.
  • $20 per person after ten. Some farther docks add a distance fee.
  • Move-in runs for furniture and house shares are a separate booking.
  • $50 if you cancel inside an hour or no-show. A waiting fee if you are not ready.
  • Based at 99 Maple Ave, Bay Shore — same campus as Fire Island Ferries.

Fire Island Water Taxi · Town to town

Island water taxi

The lateral boats stitch the island together — Ocean Beach to the lighthouse, Grove to Sailors Haven — without walking the beach with bags.

By origin and destination · call to book

  • Not a street taxi. Licensed crew, booked runs, cash or FI mTickets.
  • Handy for a two-town day: lunch in Ocean Beach, climb the light, boat back.
  • Davis Park Ferry does not run a last-minute water taxi of its own — if you miss Patchogue, this is often the cross-island option.
  • Alternate phone 631-855-0505.

  • Book up to 24 hours ahead during business hours with a $50 deposit.
  • Same-day or after hours: call 631-589-0810.
  • Return in the other direction is $40 per passenger.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early. Cancel inside 24 hours or no-show: $50.

Point O' Woods runs its own members ferry from Bay Shore — it is not a public boat. Fire Island Water Taxi is owned by Fire Island Ferries; Sayville and Davis Park are separate companies. Tickets do not transfer.
